Avowed

Avowed is an action/RPG game with both first-person and third-person perspectives. Players use magic, melee weapons, and firearms. The game features a variety of spells that allow players to, for example, freeze enemies or entangle them with charms. Spells can be combined with other weapons to create combinations, such as using a sword to shatter a frozen enemy. The game plans to include quick switching between multiple types of weapons, including pistols or wands in both hands, a two-handed axe, or a combination of different one-handed weapons and a shield. There are several skill trees that allow players to unlock more powerful abilities as they progress. Weapons can also be upgraded. Although Avowed is not an open-world game, it features several large open zones that players can freely explore. As players explore the game world, they can interact with non-player characters (NPCs). Like in Obsidian's previous game, The Outer Worlds, the game features dialogues where players can choose responses and set the tone of the conversation. Some NPCs join the player's party and become companions, each with their own personality and combat skills. However, there are no romances with companions in the game. The game is set in the Living Lands, a corner of the fantasy world of Eora from the developer's previous game, Pillars of Eternity. The Aedyran Empire, a realm uniting humans and elves, sends the main character to investigate why a mysterious plague has gripped the Living Lands.
