Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia is designed for cooperative play with up to four players who take on the roles of ghost hunters—urban explorers investigating various buildings in search of paranormal activity. During the investigation of a house, players use various devices and tools such as ultraviolet flashlights, thermometers, electromagnetic field meters, video cameras, crucifixes, and more to determine the type of ghost. Initially, players start with basic items that can later be upgraded using in-game currency for faster investigations. Different items help players search for signs of supernatural presence in the house or protect themselves from aggressive ghosts. Additionally, each map features one of the cursed items, which always appear in the same locations and help players learn more about the ghost or provoke it into an early hunt. At the start of the game, a unique ghost personality is generated, consisting of a name, gender, age, and type. There are 24 types of ghosts in the game, each with its own behaviors, strengths, and weaknesses, making each ghost unique in terms of behavior patterns (except for the "Spirit"). The ghost is always tied to a specific room in the house, chosen randomly at the beginning of the game, and it primarily manifests within that room. However, on higher difficulty levels, the ghost can change its favorite room. Generally, the ghost cannot be seen as it lacks a physical form in the game, but during hunts or other paranormal events, it may reveal its silhouette, which can appear differently and is chosen randomly at the start of the game. The ghost manifests through various minor incidents, such as moving and dropping objects in the room, turning lights on or off, or making the phone ring. As players spend time in the dark and encounter paranormal activity, their sanity meter decreases—the lower the sanity, the more aggressive the ghost becomes toward the player. Furthermore, the ghost can go on a hunt, actively trying to kill the players. During this time, the front door of the house locks automatically, and players must avoid encounters with the ghost by hiding in safe spots or running away. Each map has its own hiding spots, and larger maps have more hiding places. Throughout the mission, players communicate with each other via voice chat. The game uses Windows' built-in speech recognition technology, allowing the computer-controlled ghost to respond to questions and commands directed at it. For example, the ghost may become more aggressive and attack if frightened players urge each other to run. The ultimate goal in each mission is not to defeat the ghost but to gather enough information to identify its type. At the end of the mission, players earn experience and in-game currency, which can be spent on purchasing useful items for future missions.
